Storing your guitar in a case may not total solve all of these problems but its going to go a long way to preventing them.

Any time you go to practice with your band or go to a show you really need to keep your guitar protected. Walking around with your guitar over your shoulder is asking for trouble. Say you look across the street at something and don’t notice someone or something in front of you, you walk into it and who knows what you could do to your guitar. Break parts off it or damage the finish. We don’t want that!

Even at home there’s the risk of it being damaged. If you leave it propped up against a wall, chair, or bed, whatever there’s every chance that its going to fall over and do some damage, either to the guitar or what ever it falls onto.

A guitar case has many uses as you can see. If you really care about the guitar you should invest in one before you plan on going anywhere with it.
